Sundae Knight to Run

BRADENTON -     Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Sundae Knight and I’m here to speak to you about my qualifications and why I want to run for Manatee County Commissioner, District 6 At-Large.
It might as well be my family’s motto to "Protect and Serve"!  I’m third generation Air Force...mother retired after 20 years, grandfather was Army Air Core in WW2, with many uncles and cousins in all branches of the armed services.
So I followed in my family’s footsteps and enlisted in  the Air Force, earned my GI bill,  got out with an honorable discharge. In the Air Force, you learn the core values from the first day until your last day.

I finished my engineering degree at UCF (never let them tell you UCF stands for you can’t finish. I’m proof that it is possible!) After graduation, I started as a plans reviewer for Land Development Service, then Traffic Operations and worked my way through Sarasota County’s Professional Engineering Development Program.
"I was then honored by my colleagues with a position as Sarasota County’s Bridge Engineer."

I realize the job of a County Commissioner is to serve the Community. To make effective use of your hard earned taxpayer dollars. To approve programs that makes both dollars and sense for the community. To give the constituents a good return for their investment and bring prosperity to Manatee County. Right now Manatee County is hurting, our whole state is hurting.  Crime is up, good paying jobs are disappearing, and property values are plummeting. As a team you and I (whether you be Democrat, Republican, or Independents) can meet these challenges and find the solutions.

A Message From Our Candidate

Welcome to “THE SUNDAE PAPER”, the website dedicated to making a difference for Manatee County residents!
My name is Sundae Knight. I’m your candidate for Manatee County Commissioner At Large, District 6 for the year 2010!
We are working to secure a safer Manatee for us all, to bring good jobs to Manatee County and lay  new ground rules for responsible development.
It’s never been more important for citizens like you and I to get involved at the local level!  We’re part of the solution to the challenges facing Manatee County today.  Only together we can bring about the future that we envision  for our community.

Environment on Most Minds

FLORIDA -  Greetings from Florida, where the winters are great! You can not find anyone in this state who hasn’t seen  a sunset over the Gulf of Mexico. We do wish you were here, because attracting outsiders has always been our primary economic engine, and our engine is sputtering. Population growth is at a 30-year low. School enrollment is declining. Retirees are drifting to the Southwest and the Carolinas, while would-be Floridians who bought preconstruction condos in more optimistic times are scrambling — and often suing — to break contracts.
This is our dotcom bust, except worse, because our local govern-ment’s are utterly dependent on construction for tax revenues, so they're slashing school and public-transportation budgets that were already among the nation's stingiest. "This may be our tipping point," says former Senator Bob Graham. Otherwise, there's trouble in paradise. We're facing our worst real estate meltdown since the Depression. We've got a water crisis, insurance crisis, environ-mental crisis and budget crisis to go with our housing crisis. We're first in the nation in mortgage fraud, second in foreclosures, last in high school graduation rates. Our consumer confidence just hit an all-time low, and our icons are in trouble — the citrus industry, battered by freezes and diseases; the Florida panther, displaced by highways and driveways; the space shuttle, approaching its final count-down. New research suggests that the Everglades is collapsing, that our barrier beaches could be under water within decades.
